Dear Lisa and Jerry,
Around Thanksgiving time, my husband Dean and I were shopping in Springfield Leather and saw your flutes. I used to play a silver flute but since my horse back riding accident in 1998 when I became paralyzed from the chest down, it was hard to hold my balance with my arms in the air and I had always wanted a native flute. I was so excited to see your flutes and we picked out a lace wood F# for Dean and a b flat Padauk for me along with an F# sassafras. We were visiting my brother and family by Lake of the Ozarks and I played them for a while and just wasn't happy with the sassafras one and Jerry was so kind to drive into Springfield to meet us and brought along a few others he had as well as the zebra wood F# which he said you sent of yours. I was so excited and found your zebra wood one to fit my needs and was so easy for me to play. And so I want to say how very grateful to you both I am. Being able to play music again sets my soul free even though I'm stuck in a wheel chair. I have played it along with Dean while he sang and played his guitar at church and I am so happy to play it. You have been a godsend and I want to thank you Lisa, for your sacrifice in giving up your own flute for me. Words can't say how thankful I am. May God continue to bless you.

I don't know how it's possible but it's more beautiful than I'd ever imagined it would be. You are a true artist, a pleasure to know and an absolute hoot to talk to. Pat and I will enjoy playing our Fretwell Flutes for years to come, we're looking forward to seeing you and your family at Pow-Wows and at the St. Louis Ren Faire next year. Letter From A Special Lady - 2008
This lady is so inspiring that I wanted to share her words.

Dear Mr. Fretwell - My sister Matty said you contacted her recently and wanted to know how I was doing and if I was enjoying the flute you made me for Christmas last year. (#133) I thought I would write to let you know just how much I appreciate what you and my sister did for me. The flute is a joy to play, I close my eyes and the deep tones and melodies flow, it's almost like being in a deep meditative state, it calms me and takes me away from my troubles. Funny thing is, I open my eyes and both my coon hound and my boston terrier are sitting next to me, not making a sound, they love it too, which I never thought would happen (They both run when I get the violin out - the hound howels, go figure).

I've been a soloist since I was 11, and love music, and I know one day the voice will go, but I know your flute is something I can play until my last breath. Going to my sisters in June, where I will play for her...... and I can hardly wait to hear what it sounds like going across the small glacial lake she lives on (I just hope the bears don't act like the hounds or I'm in big trouble here)

As for me? the cancer is gone from my neck (After three surgery's) but of course the dermatologist watches this red head like a hawk, so I am in good hands. I've never been able to afford a quality Native American Flute, and have longed for one many years, my sister has always been my champion and I was so suprised by her choice of flute and that you, yourself actually made this for me - I don't know how to thank you enough.

Dear Jerry,
I recieved the two flutes you made for me a couple months ago. One is a river cane in D and a drone in Bb. They both have worked out wonderfully, I have already performed publically with them and they have been received with very positived remarks by listeners afterwards. I am playing a powwow with them in May and will let you know how it goes. In my 28 years of playing flute, I have never had the honor of playing through two finer flutes. They have clear sound and perfect intonation. I look forward to having fretwell flutes see to my flute needs in the future.

"The canary wood Bb flute I recently ordered from you, I took it, along with some of my other flutes, on our vacation. Wonder of wonders, this is the first flute my wife has been able to play and she absolutely loves it, both for its beauty and its sound. She actually would pick it up and take it out in a meadow or sit in a rocker and play it, working on creating her own first song. The mouthpiece is the only one she has found to be comfortable with and, considering she doesn't seem to have much of a strong breath, this flute is one she is fully capable of blowing and making music with.

It truly is impossible to express to you and Jerry just how much all this means to me as Gayle has long wanted to be able to make music on an instrument but had some bad childhood experiences on a clarinet which have inhibited her until she discovered your flute, which has now become hers. My heartfelt thanks to you and Jerry for such a perfect flute for Gayle.
