"I came
home for a short break from a Sundance ceremony and found my
stem and cd had arrived. The stem
is beautiful and as I work it so the insert is correct size for
my Canupa I will feel its energy and become its brother.

CHOOSE YOUR WOOD
Standard
Woods
Most of our hardwoods and exotics we purchase from a speciality
store about an hour away from our home. We hand pick each piece.
We look for unique and beautiful grain patterns as well as exceptional
color. We purchase our Eastern Cedar wood from a local young
man. He cuts and mills the cedar from here in the Ozarks. Some
of our rare and exotic woods, we purchase from other sources
around the country. Koa and Curly Koa we purchase directly from
Hawaii. You can choose from the 32 standard woods listed on our
website.
Non-Standard Woods
Most wood will make a wonderful pipe stem. Email or call us (417-535-6032)
to choose woods not shown on our website such as: Koa, Curly
Koa, Honey Mesquite, Black Mesquite, Quina, Wenge, Spanish Cedar,
Redwood, Sapele, Quilted Sapele, Rose woods, & Quatersawn
woods.
Wood Special To You
If you have a piece of wood that's special to you, send it to
us and we will make your pipe stem from that piece. Some of our
customers go to their local wood store and choose their own piece
of wood. Wood grain and color are unique to each board that is
cut. Each piece of wood has it's own unique spirit. When you
can see and touch the piece of wood, the spirit of the wood can
talk to you. |

- Round or Flat
We offer two styles of pipe stems. The flat pipe stem with rounded
edges and the completely round pipe stem that we turn on a lathe. |

CHOOSE YOUR SIZE
We offer
many sizes of pipe stems. Our standard stems are
1 1/2 " wide. They vary in length (11"-23") including
the insert. The insert part is 2" long and is tapered to
1/2" wide. You will want the fit of the insert to be snug
in the hole of your bowl. You will need to use sand paper to
make the final adjustment in the size of the insert to ensure
a snug fit. Start sanding with heavy grit sandpaper ( 80 grit).
It's a process consisting of: sand a little, test the fit, sand
a little, test the fit etc... As you get close to the finished
size, use 100 grit. Finish it off with a 220 grit for smoothness.
The insert is tapered. It should not go all the way in. |

CHOOSE YOUR FINISH
Most
people prefer unfinished wood for pipe stems. If you choose to
have a finish on your pipe stem, we will use Shellac. Over a
period of several days, we apply several thin coats of non-toxic,
humanly edible shellac to your pipe stem. (It's the same shellac
that is used in the food industry when making licorice candy.)
Clear shellac lets the natural grain pattern and color of the
wood stand out. Your pipe stem will have a soft shine. |

SPECIAL - SIZES,
SHAPES, AND WOOD BURNINGS
We specialize
in custom fit pipe stems. We can make your pipe stem as thin as
a pencil or as thick as you would like. If you need a non-standard
size or shape, Email or call us (417-535-6032).
We can wood burn Feathers, Birds, Animals, A Name, A Saying etc.
onto your pipe stem. For the darker woods, we etch the image
on. First we burn it and then we wash over it with white and
remove the excess. The white sinks into the burned image leaving
the image visible.
